We at Glacier certainly appreciate the apprehension prevalent throughout the distiller industry today. This is especially true whenever water-cooled condensing is the topic of discussion. You see, Glacier has taken the distiller industry from one particular realm of technology into a new and exciting arena.
The Glacier distiller uses a unique and patented water-cooled process to condense steam into purified drinking water. This process eliminates the heat that is normally associated with steam distillation. Most other manufactured distillers are air-cooled, which incorporates electricity (a blower fan) as its main component for condensing the steam. These units typically will use up to 40% more in electrical costs vs. Glacier units.
Our competition would like to have you believe that out models "waste water". Nothing could be further from the truth!
Glacier distillers use "treatment water" rather than "wasting water" when condensing steam into purified drinking water. This use of water is something that is not out of line with reverse osmosis or filtration products but provides a much higher quality of drinking water. Also, the water that the D-3 uses, and then returns to the environment, is the same grade of tap water that comes into the unit.
Economically, you will find that the cost per gallon of water is miniscule when compared to the use of kilowatt-hours. Thus, when a cost comparison is made, one will find that the water cooling unit will use much less electricity than the conventional electric cooling unit. Therefore, the Glacier D-3 will be more cost effective for the consumer to operate.
Ecologically, you will find that water is a renewable resource, one that cannot be destroyed but only recycled, time and time again. So the concept of "wasting water" truly does not exist. The cooling water should be viewed as a treatment cost. See:
“Water Facts and Statistics.”
Electrical condensing units consume a greater amount of electricity. The D-3 total amperage is 8.5, while comparison units range from 14 to 16 amps. Therefore, the Glacier D-3 will give you up to 40% savings in electricity costs.
As we know, the production of electricity has a tendency to deplete our natural resource base, either by the burning of fossil fuels or the production of nuclear waste. In this vein the Glacier D-3 is more of an "environmentally friendly" product.
